I rented a house from Northwest Rental Mgt. owned by Carl Petersen. I was moving across the country, so I rented it sight unseen. Within a day of moving in I found the house to be horribly infested with fleas. When I said I wanted to move out the property managed insisted I pay 3 months rent. I refused so they started eviction proceedings and a suit in small claims court. I left the house immediately and filed against them in small claims court to get the money back that I had paid them. They dropped their claim, and I lost mine (no evidence, kind of hard to prove fleas to the satisfaction of the court). I was required to pay them $100 which I did, but they never filed that with the court. Now I have to go back to the court to get this removed from my credit report.
Bottom line, do not rent from these slum lords. They will abuse you. This is a terrible business.
